My Need – a Stumbling Block to God?

Does my greatest physical, financial or emotional need become a stumbling block to the Lord? Do I focus more on my prayer request than I do on the One who can grant it? Or, do I focus only on God as being able to answer my need rather than concentrating on Him simply because of Who He is?Our loving heavenly Father can and will generously meet our needs, but His greatest desire is for our hearts turning to Him in humility and worship. When our primary desire is for our necessity, then we’ve turned our eyes off the Giver so that to some extent that need becomes an idol to us, what we put first in our lives rather than our Father  becomes a barrier because our problem has become a god to us.

Psalm 16:4a, 5 (New Living Translation) tells us, Troubles multiply for those who chase after other gods. Lord, you alone are my inheritance, my cup of blessing. You guard all that is mine.

Let us surrender whatever our need is, no matter what, to our loving Father who is amply able to supply. Then we can focus on Him and believe that He will meet that need! This same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19).

Read this at a good time- our message this morning was Hebrews 12:1-3: to throw off everything that hinders us and the sin that so easily entangles us and run the race…

So there is sin, then there are things that hinder – not sin, but things that personally keep us from focusing on God and the race He has for us. May God show us all those “stumbling blocks” that hinder our run!

    Dear Sister in Christ,
Thank you for writing this piece.
    We all need reminding.
Hopefully you are well and have avoided the dread flue.
Our times with the men at BARC is so rich and rewarding.
