Awesome Love

God loved Hitler as much as He loved all the Jews Hitler killed. That’s an astounding statement, but I can prove it.
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. (John 3:16-17 NKJV[1])
“Say to them: [As] I live,” says the Lord God, “I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live.” (Ezekiel 33:11)

We can all think of evil people throughout time who killed others. The Roman emperor Nero was known for his executions, including his own mother, his step-brother and many Christians, according to three historians who wrote one generation later[2]. People all over the world kill others because for one reason or another, they find fault with their victims.

Most of us do not personally know people like this but we know of them from news stories. We know the evil they do. Who can forget 9/11 in the US? Yet, in His infinite wisdom and love, God sent Jesus to die for those men as much as Jesus died for you and me. Unreasonable? Yes. But God doesn’t follow our reason. He tells us that our thoughts aren’t His and His ways aren’t ours[3].

Can you fathom such unreasonable love? I can’t either. But I do love and praise the Lord God Almighty who shows such unfailing love to you and me. That’s all we can do, isn’t it?
