Enjoying God’s Presence

My adult children live away from my home, so I only get to see them a few times a year, often only once or twice a year. That makes me totally look forward to each time, no matter what we do, or don’t do. Just sitting and talking is great. Being together is the best part of all; sometimes an activity adds to that enjoyment. Being together thrills my heart. Even though we talk on the phone weekly and enjoy that, being within touching distance beats a phone call every time.

In some ways that’s how it is with God. Just sitting and talking with God is wonderful, but how blessed it is to simply sit in His presence. Just to Be still and know I am God (Psalm 46:10 NIV). In our fast-paced world, we tend to rush through our devotional time. Even when we aren’t rushing, we read the Bible or a devotional and pray for a few minutes, but how often do we really stop and just sit with God, enjoying His presence with us?

Simply being still and letting His glory envelop us, bringing peace, satisfaction, contentment and joy. For a time, we’re enabled to forget problems, duties, the list of to-dos. We’re filled and overflowing. God’s presence with us eludes description; words become inadequate. Oh taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man [person] who takes refuge in Him (Psalm 34:8).
