Remember the neon-colored, fuzzy little dolls of a few years ago that said, “Please be patient; God isn’t through with me yet.” This morning I thought of that saying and almost jumped up and down in glee. God’s not through with me yet! That’s a real praise the Lord. The same is true with you.
I’ve been a senior adult for quite a few years, but God still has plans for me – good plans. Some of those I’m aware of but some may be surprises He has for the future.
I look into the past and see how much God has changed my thoughts and attitudes, making changes in my actions. Paul said in Philippians 3:13-15a (The Message Bible) Friends, don’t get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward — to Jesus. I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back. So let’s keep focused on that goal, those of us who want everything God has for us.
To paraphrase this: I see how much I’ve grown spiritually over the years, but I know I’m still way from where I want to be; so I don’t consider how far I’ve come, but I look forward to what Christ will continue to do in me so that I’ll become the person Father God created me to be. Furthermore, as long as I’m available, I know God will work in me. (And He will also give me work to do. Christianity has no retirement system!)
While this application isn’t the only one for these verses, I think it is valid here. You might look at me and think, “I’m really glad God isn’t through with you too.” That’s ok. As long as God’s working on us, then we’re growing more like Christ. How about you? Are you allowing God to continue to work on you? It’s His great desire because long before you were born, your heavenly Father had specific and excellent plans for you, according to Jeremiah 29:11. He still has those plans. Join me in my excitement because God isn’t finished with us yet! Hallelujah!
Great post, Sandra. I’m happy for you, that you get this. When we’re partners with God, he can do lots of good through us. Blessings on you.
